Tigers named on Guinness Premiership awards shortlist

Richard Cockerill and Ben Youngs are among the nominations for the Guinness Premiership end-of-season awards.

Leicester Tigers head coach Cockerill, the winner last year, is nominated as QBE Director of Rugby of the Season alongside Andy Key of Leeds Carnegie and Jim Mallinder of Northampton Saints.

Scrum-half Youngs has been shortlisted in the Land Rover Discovery of the Season category alongside James Gaskell (Sale Sharks), Courtney Lawes (Northampton Saints), Andy Saull (Saracens) and Joe Simpson (London Wasps). Players nominated must be aged 21 or under on the date of the Guinness Premiership Final.

Youngs finished third in this category last year, but has started 16 league matches this season and won his first England cap during the RBS 6 Nations.

Tigers lock Richard Blaze is among the nominations for MBNA Community Player of the Season, recognising his work in the community throughout the year.

The Guinness Premiership Awards take place at the Hilton Metropole on Tuesday, May 18. Awards for Gatorade Performance of the Season, Top Try Scorer, Gilbert Golden Boot and Sky Sports Dream Team will also be announced on the night.
