The Leicester Tigers captain has spoken to national head coach Brian Ashton and will not be seeking selection in the England squad for the RBS 6 Nations Championship which is due to be revealed this week.
Corry said: “I have had a fantastic international career and I have some marvellous memories of momentous games with England and playing alongside and against some great players around the world.
“I am grateful to all of the coaches who gave me those opportunities with England but, with a World Cup campaign just behind us, I think this is the right time to step aside.
“Being involved with the national squad is a highlight for any player and I was also fortunate enough to be involved in three World Cup squads and captain my country, which I see as the ultimate honour for a professional sportsman.”
Corry made his senior England debut in Argentina in 1997 after previous recognition at Under-18, Students and A levels.
He captained his country for the first time during the 2005 Six Nations and made his 64th Test appearance in last year’s World Cup Final against South Africa after captaining England during the earlier stages of the tournament.
The back-row forward also gained six Test caps in two tours with the British & Irish Lions, captaining them on occasion during the 2005 tour to New Zealand.
Corry led Tigers in three finals last season when they became the first club to win the Guinness Premiership title and EDF Energy Cup in the same year, and is now in his third season as club captain. He has made 255 first-team appearances since joining the club from Bristol in 1997.
“I still have ambitions as a Leicester Tigers player and I am fully committed to achieving them with the club,” said Corry.
