Tigers stars joined Leicester City legends in a Twenty20 cricket match to raise money for local causes.

A Tigers XI, led by fly-half Sam Vesty, took on a Matt Hampson Trust XI, captained by ex-City defender Matt Elliott, in front of more than 1,300 spectators at Rothley Park Cricket Club.

The Tigers team included Jordan Crane, Tom Croft and Harry Ellis as well as Richard Blaze, Matt Smith and Geoff Parling.

But they were beaten by 28 runs by the Matt Hampson Trust side, which included former City defender and now reserve team coach Gerry Taggart as well as Tigers stars Aaron Mauger, Craig Newby and Johne Murphy and coaches Matt O’Connor and Ben Herring.

The Matt Hampson Trust XI batted first after being put in and made 171-8 from their 20 overs with captain Elliott top-scorer with 45 not out.

In reply, James Grindal top scored for Tigers with 30 but the team fell short of the required run rate to finish on 143-8.

The event is in its sixth year and was held to support Loros, the Matt Hampson Trust and the development of junior cricket at Rothley Park Cricket Club.
