Tigers players and coaches held skills sessions in the centre of Leicester as part of a celebration of sport.

Marcos Ayerza and Richard Blaze joined first team coaches Paul Burke and Ben Herring and members of the community team for ball handling drills with young players.

Fans had their photos taken with the players as well as the Guinness Premiership trophy and club mascot Leicester Tiger.

It was all part of Sports Fest 2009, a celebration of sport hosted by Leicester City Council held in Humberstone Gate on Friday.

Tigers and England Saxons second row Blaze said: “It has been a really enjoyable day. There has been a lot of interest in Tigers and some really good skills on display.”

Scott Clarke, Tigers community manager, added: “We have had a lot of fun with the children with some skills work focusing on handling, communication and passing.”

Mascot Leicester Tiger also took part before he joined Leicestershire County Cricket Club mascot Charlie Fox and the ER Crew for a high-energy dance session.

Clarke said: “Probably the highlight for me was watching some of the shapes Leicester was throwing. One of these days he will throw some that match the music!”

Joel Cummins, 15, who plays rugby for Lancaster Boys School joined in one of the Tigers sessions.
“It was really good,” he said. It was really good to meet the players and coaches and learn some new rugby skills from them.”

Kelly Ward, who was one of scores of people to have their photo taken with the Guinness Premiership trophy that Tigers won at Twickenham in May, said: “It's been great. The players have signed my shirt and it was really nice to meet them.”
