The new Caterpillar Stand remains on schedule for completion in time for the opening home game of the Guinness Premiership season, against Newcastle Falcons on September 19, but was not included in planning for the pre-season programme and will not be open for the Munster fixture.
Supporters with season tickets in the Caterpillar Stand will be relocated to other areas of the stadium and will receive instructions soon about how to reserve their places.
Tigers head coach Richard Cockerill, who welcomed back the bulk of his squad for pre-season training this week, says the Munster fixture can provide the perfect test ahead of the Guinness Premiership opening-day trip to Sale Sharks on September 4.
“We’ve enjoyed some big games against Munster over the years and they are one of the biggest clubs in European rugby,” said Cockerill.
“Munster have a good depth of talent in their squad and we look forward to welcoming them and a decent Bank Holiday weekend crowd to Welford Road. It should be an excellent occasion.”
Munster topped the Magners League in 2008/09 while Tigers picked up the Guinness Premiership silverware. They also supplied a major contingent to Ireland’s 2009 Grand Slam squad and had eight players selected for the British & Irish Lions party this summer.
To guarantee you don’t miss out on any of the action in 2009/10, reserve your place for 16 home games and enjoy priority booking for knockout fixtures in all three competitions by buying a Tigers season ticket.
