Tigers trio pen new contracts

Dan Hipkiss, James Hamilton and Tom Croft have all signed new contracts to stay at Leicester Tigers.

Centre Hipkiss has enjoyed a good run of form this season and completed his 50th game for the club in the defeat of Saracens on New Year's Day, while fellow 24-year-old Hamilton has been elevated to international status after earning his first two caps for Scotland. The 21-year-old Croft has emerged as a back-row contender and has received with England Sevens recognition.

All have now agreed new terms at Welford Road and head coach Pat Howard is delighted.

Howard said: "Dan has really stepped up this season. He is a far more rounded player and we really believe he has taken another step forward in his development. I was really disappointed that he was not involved in the England A set-up but the challenge and the goal must now be for him to become an international player.

"Big Jim has got his two caps for Scotland this season and the big challenge for him now is to become the number one second row at the club. There is big competition in that area but that has to be the goal for him.

"Crofty is a very athletic guy and he had a really good pre-season but then an injury hampered his start to the campaign. We are hoping that he can now replicate that early form in the second half of the season.

"In terms of all of the contract signings, these are players who we not only believe are playing well this season but also have more to come and we hope that they will continue to be part of a happy and successful Leicester Tigers side."
