Toby Flood injury update

Leicester Tigers fly-half Toby Flood has been ruled out of the rest of the season by a ruptured left Achilles.

Flood received the injury during the Heineken Cup semi-final against Cardiff Blues at the Millennium Stadium on Sunday and, in consultation with the medical teams at Leicester Tigers and England, he had surgery on his Achilles  last night.

A full recovery is expected to take up to six months and he will miss the run-in to the end of the season with Tigers and England’s summer tour to Argentina.

Tigers head coach Richard Cockerill said: “It is very disappointing news for Toby at the end of his first season with the club. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back into the squad.”

England team manager Martin Johnson added: “On behalf of the squad, I'm very disappointed for Toby. He was playing well and I wish him a speedy recovery.”

The news is particularly disappointing for Cockerill as he has seen a number of key players return from the injured list to make themselves available for the final weeks of the season, with Lewis Moody, Craig Newby, Matt Smith and Martin Corry among those in contention again after injury problems.
