We must make the most of our chances - Murphy

Johne Murphy scored a Twickenham try in the Guinness Premiership clash with Harlequins on Saturday, but left rugby HQ disappointed that two points had slipped out of Leicester Tigers' grasp.

A last-minute score for Quins tied the game at 26-26 and meant Tigers had to share the points after Murphy had scored his eighth try of the season in the first half and then created a score for Tom Croft after the break.

“We are disappointed after leading in the second half,” said Murphy. “It has happened a couple of times and we need to finish off close games.

“There are about seven clubs fighting for top-four places and a place in the play-offs. It is going to be really tight. When it is that tight we have to make sure we take our opportunities and finish games off.

“It is a great league and it is probably going to be a blanket finish this season with so many teams packed tightly together.”

Supporters Player of the Season in 2007/08, Murphy grabbed his 20th try in Tigers colours on Saturday and, despite the disappointment at the outcome, enjoyed playing his part in a game watched by the biggest-ever crowd for a single, regular season fixture in the Guinness Premiership.

“Performing in front of 50,000 people at Twickenham is one of the reasons we play the game,” he said. “When you get that opportunity you have to take it.”

Fellow try-scorer Croft was named Sky Sports man of the match and said: “We are disappointed not to win the game. We needed to be a bit smarter and a bit more streetwise, but we’ll take the two points.”
