The Saxons, with skipper Crane at No8 and club colleague Billy Twelvetrees at centre, scored 13 tries to get their cup campaign off to a flying start at Franklin’s Gardens, Northampton.
Twelvetrees, who was named man of the match, scored try number eight as he finished a length-of-the-field break to take England past the half-century mark.
It was a score which began in the England 22, Twelvetrees passing outside to Henry Trinder and then taking the inside ball from Miles Benjamin to run in under posts.
There were five tries in the first half, from Benjamin (2), Trinder, Micky Young and a penalty try awarded as Crane controlled the ball at the back of a scrum which had the Americans backpedalling towards their own posts.
Benjamin completed his hat-trick in the second half, and there were further scores by Brown, Trinder, Tom Johnson, Charlie Sharples, Graham Kitchener and Paul Hodgson as well as the Twelvetrees touchdown in a dominant performance.
