Youngs toasts England win

Ben Youngs was full of praise for his England team-mates after the dramatic 21-20 win against Australia in Sydney.

Leicester Tigers scrum-half Youngs scored the opening try of the game, his first in international rugby, as England secured a first win in Australia since the 2003 World Cup Final.

Youngs said: “It all started from the lineout. Thommo (hooker Steve Thompson) throwing in and Crofty getting the delivery – it was a team thing.

“Chris Ashton’s try, what a great try that was. It was good build-up and great hands by Tom Palmer to put him in. We have some great footballers and hopefully we can keep moving on.”

He added: “We got a lot of things right in this game and proved to everyone that we can play rugby.”

His Tigers team-mate Tom Croft described the win as “awesome”.

“It’s one of the best feelings you can get, winning a game,” said Croft. “To win down here for the first time in however many years is absolutely awesome.

“All credit to the boys through the whole squad and the midweek boys who have been playing as well. It’s an awesome team effort. Those last 20 minutes our noses were to the grindstone and we did a job.

“That performance has been a long time coming. There are certain areas we can improve on but it would have been a long summer to dwell on a loss.”
