Team News | Leicester Tigers line-up to face Jersey Reds

Steve Borthwick has named the Leicester Tigers matchday squad to face Jersey Reds in the first pre-season fixture of the 2021/22 season.

Jack van Poortvliet will captain the Tigers side, with the 20-year-old partnering Freddie Burns as the Leicester half-backs.

Burns will make his first appearance for the club in more than four years after returning to Tigers, where he played 75 games between 2014-17.

In the Tigers midfield, Argentina international Juan Pablo Socino makes his first appearance for the club since arriving from Saracens over the off-season.

Socino is included alongside Scotland international Matt Scott as the centre-pairing for Friday evening’s fixture at Stade Santander International.

Bryce Hegarty is included for his first appearance in Tigers colours, with the Australian named to start at full-back alongside countryman Guy Porter and fellow new recruit Hosea Saumaki in the Leicester back-three.

Up front, Francois van Wyk starts in his first game for Leicester since arriving over the summer.

The South African prop is named at loose-head in the Tigers front-row with Nic Dolly and Will Hurd.

Harry Wells, who made his international debut for England in the summer, partners Cameron Henderson in the Tigers second-row.

George Martin is named at No.8, with Ollie Chessum and Tommy Reffell joining the England international in the Leicester back-row.

On an extended bench, Borthwick has named Archie Vanes, Dan Richardson, Nephi Leatigaga, Eli Snyman and Gareth Evans as the forwards replacements and Ben Youngs, Dan Lancaster, Jacob Cusick and Joe Browning as the backs.
